Samsung Galaxy M62 has a recommended retail price of 44,500 shillings. It features a Super AMOLED Plus display, an Exynos 9825 chipset, a quad 64 MP camera, and a large Li-Po 7000 mAh non-removable battery. Galaxy M62 is the successor of Galaxy M51 which was released 2020, September 11.

Display (richer viewing)

On the front, you get a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080P resolution and a standard 60 Hertz refresh rate. Bummer? You do get a traditional 3.5-millimeter jack though. And with headphones plugged in, there is support for FM radio. Overall, this display is nice, especially for a mid-ranger. You get sharp pictures, punchy colors which can be tuned to be reasonably accurate under settings. Those deep blacks are typical for AMOLED display. Brightness is good too with a maximum of 420 nits. All you will be missing on Galaxy M62 is a high refresh rate. Many competitor’s panels will look smoother when you’re swiping or scrolling. A quad camera

Now onto the Samsung Galaxy M62 quad camera setup. There’s a 64 megapixel quad rear main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a depth sensor which is also 5 MP, f/2.4. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default. In good light, these are quite nice. You get lively colors, excellent detail, and a wide dynamic range for a mid-range phone. Portrait shots look pretty good with pleasant-looking backgrounds. Since there’s no telephoto camera on Samsung Galaxy M62, zoomed photos are achieved through a crop and upscale from the main shooter.

Attention-grabbing selfies

Its 12-megapixel ultra-wide cam takes especially wide photos with a respectable amount of detail. 5-megapixel close-up photos from the macro camera will blow you away that is for sure. These images are way better than what you’d get with 2-megapixel macro cams that are common these days. And low light, photos from the main camera are quite decent even for a mid-ranger. Selfie and video

Now lest we forget about that other camera lens namely, the selfie. Samsung Galaxy M62 has a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. Its selfies come out at 12 megapixels. These have good detail with faces coming out well exposed. Videos can be recorded with the main camera and up to 4k resolution at 30FPS with improved natural-looking processing from the previous gen. The ultra-wide camera can also shoot 4k videos. Electronic stabilization is available on both cameras smoothing out. Handheld video reasonably well.

Performance

Now Samsung Galaxy M62 is no slouch when it comes to chipset performance either. It runs on a high-end Exynos 9825 (7 nm) chipset. This is the same chipset we see on Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus. The phone’s interfaces are Samsung’s very own One UI 3.1 running over Android 11. It’s quite smooth and gives you a similar experience to other recent Samsung phones. Most functions are provided by Google’s apps. But in classic Samsung fashion, you do get a proprietary Gallery app, file manager, and a Samsung web browser.

Should you buy Samsung Galaxy M62, you will be getting 128GB of storage onboard. And this is expandable through microSDXC (dedicated slot) should you need more. Waking up and unlocking the Galaxy M62 can be done with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It is fast and most reliable.

7,000mAh¹ monster battery

When you think of a Samsung phone, a “battery champion” is probably not what comes to mind. But now that has changed with the Samsung Galaxy M62 which has an insane 7000 mAh battery. Just how good is the battery life here? A 7000 mAh battery capacity is the biggest we’ve seen in a mainstream phone. As you’d expect it blows away its competition as far as endurance goes. And even then we haven’t yet mentioned that it supports fast charging 25W, 100% in 115 min. Yes! It also has support for that high-end reverse charging.

Recommendation

Because of the above-mentioned power pack, the M62 is thicker (9.5 mm) and heavier (218 grams) than many of 2021’s phones despite having a lighter plastic build. While not the most premium, the phone still feels solid. Samsung Galaxy M62 is a mid-range phone that isn’t lacking feature-wise. Its specs and price in Kenya are very similar to the Samsung Galaxy M51. If you are looking to buy a phone with excellent battery life, an impressive camera, and a high-performing chipset then you might as well want to consider this one. Otherwise the only downside, one might say, is that it does not have a higher refresh rate which is rapidly becoming popular with mid-range phones these days.
